Sump pump battery backup
Storms knock the power out exactly when your sump pump is needed most. A battery backup takes over when the power fails or the main pump stops, so the pit keeps emptying and the water stays out of the basement.

Licensed & insuredMetro master plumbing licence15791Ask about a backup when
- Your basement got wet during a power outage
- Your sump pump has no backup at all
- The existing backup battery is old or has never been tested
- The pump runs often in spring and after heavy rain
- You finished the basement and have more to lose

How a battery backup works
A second pump sits in the pit beside the main pump, connected to a battery. If the power fails, or the main pump jams or wears out, the backup switches on when the water rises. A high water alarm warns you that something has gone wrong.
Fitted to your existing pit
Most backups fit the pit you already have. We check the main pump, the check valve and the discharge line at the same time, because a backup cannot help if the discharge is blocked or frozen.
Look after the battery
Batteries wear out. Test the backup each spring and fall by unplugging the main pump and pouring water into the pit. If the backup does not start, call us before the next storm.
