How we clear a drain

First we work out where the blockage is. One slow sink usually means a problem near that fixture. Several slow drains, or water at the floor drain, usually means the main line.

• Cable machine (snaking): a motorized cable breaks through the blockage and pulls debris out. Good for hair, grease plugs and roots near the cleanout.
• Hydro jetting: a high-pressure water hose scours the inside of the pipe. Good for grease and sludge that coat the whole pipe.
• Camera inspection: if the clog keeps coming back, we run a camera down the line to see why. See drain camera inspection.

After the line runs clear, we test it and show you what we found. If the pipe is cracked, sagging or full of roots, we explain your options before anything else is done.

Kitchen drains

Kitchen lines clog slowly. Grease and soap cool inside the pipe and trap food. It builds up until the sink stops draining. Clearing it properly means cleaning the pipe walls, not just poking a hole through the plug.

Bathroom and floor drains

Bathroom sinks and tubs clog with hair and soap. Floor drains in older Toronto basements often tie into the main line, so water there is a warning sign for the whole house. If sewage comes up the floor drain, stop using water and call us.
