Laundry room plumbing
A washing machine pushes a lot of water in a short time, so a small drain problem shows up fast. We clear and correct laundry drains, install utility sinks and move hookups when your layout changes.

- The standpipe overflows when the washer drains
- The drain gurgles or backs up during a cycle
- Water collects on the floor near the washer
- The shut-off valves behind the washer are stuck or dripping
- You want a utility sink or to move your hookups

When the washer overflows
Stop the machine and check how the discharge hose sits in the standpipe. If the hose is secure, the cause is usually a blocked or undersized drain, or poor venting. If the floor drain or other fixtures back up too, the shared line may be involved. See drain cleaning.
Drain size and venting
A washing machine standpipe usually needs a 2-inch drain, and a laundry sink usually needs 1½ or 2 inches, with a properly sized trap and vent. Older homes may have smaller lines that struggled long before the machine was replaced. We check what you have and what it needs.
Utility sinks and moved hookups
A utility sink needs hot and cold lines and a properly vented drain. We also move washer hookups when you change your layout, including to an upper floor. The drain, vent and access for leaks all need planning, so tell us where you would like it.
Protect the floor below
Supply hoses are under pressure all the time. Check them for bulges and cracks, know where the shut-off valves are, and close them if you are going away. A floor drain or drain pan helps for upper-floor machines.
We serve homes in Etobicoke, Mississauga, North York and nearby Toronto communities.
