Sewer line installation
Your sewer line carries everything your home drains out to the City sewer. When an old one has failed, or your home needs a new connection, we plan the route, dig it, install the new pipe and connect it, and tell you up front what your yard will look like after.

Licensed & insuredMetro master plumbing licence15791You may need a new sewer line if
- A camera inspection showed the line has collapsed
- Roots or cracks run along most of its length
- Backups keep returning soon after cleaning
- You are adding plumbing the old line cannot serve
- You are already digging up the yard or foundation

Do you really need a new one?
Often the answer is no. A blockage can be cleared with drain cleaning, and a single broken section can be repaired on its own. We use a camera inspection and pinpoint locating to see what is going on before anyone talks about a new line. You can watch the inspection live.
How the job goes
- Locate. We find the existing line, its depth and what else is buried along the route.
- Plan. We explain what will be dug up, inside and outside, before you decide.
- Excavate. We open the route down to the line.
- Install. The new pipe goes in with a steady slope, so waste keeps moving toward the City sewer.
- Connect and backfill. We connect it at both ends, then fill the trench back in.
Where your line ends and the City's begins
The part of the sewer connection on your property is yours. The part on City property is the City's. If the problem is on the City's side, the City is responsible for fixing it, so it is worth finding out before you spend money on your side. Details are below.
Do you need a permit?
The City of Toronto lists installing or modifying plumbing systems as work that needs a building permit. Confirm what applies and who is applying before work starts.
Worth adding while the ground is open
- A cleanout, so the line can be reached later. In Toronto, the City may ask for a working cleanout before it can investigate a backup.
- A backwater valve, if your basement has flooded before. In Toronto, the City may pay part of the cost. See backwater valves.
- A new water service, if the old one runs nearby and is also due for replacing. See water line repair.
