General Plumbing Uncovered

General Plumbing Uncovered

By | Uncategorized, Plumbing | No Comments

Plumb it right or plumb it wrong? When it comes to general plumbing, it is a good thing that your plumber knows the difference. Here’s why you might need our expertise for all your plumbing needs.

New homes don’t usually come with plumbing issues, however, if you experience any issues or want to put your mind at ease, hiring a plumbing company to do a home inspection is ideal. These professionals will ensure that all your general plumbing needs are met and that your pipes are working properly. They can also let you know when future maintenance and checks should be done to ensure you don’t have more serious issues in the future.

Any home can and will experience a plumbing issue in its lifetime. This can happen for many reasons namely:

  • Maintenance did not occur or your pipes were not properly maintained
  • Pipes may burst due to weather conditions, pressure build-up, damage, or corrosion
  • A faucet may start to leak or burst
  • Rodents or infestation may not issue in pipes
  • Boilers may overheat or become damaged
  • Water pressure issues may occur after or during pipework or construction
  • Toilets may clog up or stop flushing properly
  • Garbage disposals may become clogged up

Some warning signs indicating that you need work done ASAP include:

  • Your faucet is not working properly
  • Your pipes have burst
  • Your pipes are frozen
  • Your boiler is not working
  • Your water pressure is very low
  • Your toilet is not working
  • Your garbage disposal is not working
  • Foul odors are coming from your pipes
  • You can see rodents or other infestations

Whether you need minor plumbing repairs, replacement services for certain pipes, or a completely new plumbing system, your plumbing problems need to be taken care of ASAP. Not immediately taking care of a plumbing issue can lead to further damage to the plumbing system and home down the line. Fixing damaged pipes and replacing damaged items in a home will be more costly to homeowners than the initial minor repair work.

Plumbing repairs however don’t have to lead to extra stress for you. You need to ensure that you choose a professional plumber that is qualified, licensed, insured, and trusted. Choosing a plumber without the credentials can not just be worrisome for you, but lead to plumbing repairs being incomplete or done poorly. Furthermore, poor or cheap plumbing can lead to added expenses in the future as they are often temporary fixes.

It is not advised that you undertake repairs yourself as this could also lead to further damage. Some things should be left to the professionals. A plumbing company will make your life much easier. Be cautious when choosing a company as this needs to be a reputable company that will be liable for the repair and safety of your home. You need a company that is trusted to provide you with only expert teams that will treat you and your home with the respect you deserve. Plumbers should come with all safety equipment and work under good quality standards. A professional plumbing company will also come with the necessary and expensive equipment needed for repairs, saving you the headache of paying a fortune on DIY equipment.

If you need to read more about services for specific repairs, read more below:

Faucet Repairs

Faucet repairs can be needed in the bathroom, kitchen, toilet, or even shower. This is easily done by a plumber when a faucet breaks and needs replacement. There are various types of faucets and a good plumber will be able to assess the issue, provide upfront pricing and find a suitable replacement.

Our plumbers perform faucet repair in Toronto on all major makes and models of Moen faucets, Delta faucets, Kohler faucets, Emco faucets, Waltec faucets, Grohe faucets, American Standard faucets, Toto faucets, Crane faucets, and more. All you need to do is mention what it looks like when you call.

Burst Pipes

Pipes burst due to weather conditions or overheating. Burst pipes seem small in comparison to other issues but they can cause major damage and cost to the homeowner and are seen as a plumbing emergency. If you have a burst pipe, you need to take care of it ASAP.

We will not only repair your pipes but we will also help you to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We may upgrade your pipes to copper or stainless steel to prevent that type of incident again. We will even offer you a 20-year warranty on your new pipe and we also give you up front pricing so there is no surprise to you the customer.

Frozen Pipes

Canadian weather can get quite cold and pipes can get quite frozen. When the water in your pipes freezes, it expands enough to put pressure on the pipes and cause them to burst. This happens especially when you’re on vacation.

Winter can be a stressful time for homeowners but frozen pipes are issues that can be prevented and solved before it leads to further damage. We will answer any questions that you have if you have frozen pipes, and help you diagnose any potential plumbing issues before they become major problems.

Frozen Burst Pipe

Piping work may be needed when your plumbing system is not working properly. These can include repiping leaky faucets, overflowing sinks, and clogged drains. The time taken may be longer depending on how much repiping work is needed but if you choose a local company, you wouldn’t have to wait for pipes to be delivered.

There is no job too large or small for our team that we cannot make right. Our technicians are trained to be able to deal with any piping or water-related issue or emergency. We often use a single truck and local equipment and materials so you’ll have repairs and repiping work done almost immediately.

Boiler Repairs

A boiler is known as a central heating system of the home. If there is some problem with a boiler, the entire heating system may explode. When it comes to your family, a boiler failure can be more than just a minor inconvenience. Sometimes a malfunctioning boiler may emit harmful gases so the entire heating system may become dangerous.

We service your boiler regularly to ensure that it will not cause problems to you and your family anytime soon. As with other products on the market, a boiler should come with a manufacturer’s warranty. However, this warranty is subject to the condition that you get your boiler serviced annually. Therefore, this is necessary to avoid paying thousands of dollars for costly boiler repairs.

Low Water Pressure

If you notice your water pressure on your faucet or shower starting to slow down, you may need repairs done immediately. You don’t want to leave it until it completely shuts off or slows to a point that you and your family cannot have access to adequate clean water. Furthermore, you need quick repairs so it’s not an inconvenience for your day-to-day activities.

We have plumbers who specialize in identifying and repairing slow and low water pressure and taking preventative measures so that it doesn’t happen again. This will ensure that you aren’t left in the shower or washing dishes without clean running water.

Toilet Issues & Repairs

A backed-up toilet is not fun. Not only are toilet issues a nuisance but they can also be unsanitary. Whether your toilet is clogged, leaking or wobbly, you need to get this taken care of as a top priority for your general health and well-being.

We are experts at repairing all brands of toilets. Our toilet repair experts know all major brands and have repaired the majority of all brands out there. We also carry valves, floats, and other components for all major toilet brands so your toilet can get repaired on-site and you don’t have to wait for ages to use it!

Garbage Disposals & Repairs

Smelly garbage disposals? It’s probably time to clean or repair your garbage disposal. This shouldn’t be a DIY project as you can cause more damage or perhaps even injure yourself. You should call an expert to unclog and repair any issues. Experts will bring the right equipment needed for the job.

Sewer Smells

By | Drain Cleaning, Drain Maintenance, Home Plumbing, Plumbing | No Comments

Toronto Sewer SmellsIf your basement smells like a sewer, I’m sure you want to take care of it as quickly as possible. The good news is that, unlike many other plumbing projects, eliminating unpleasant odors in the basement is usually pretty simple. The odor has typically has one of five causes, most of which can be corrected fairly quickly.

Top Causes of Unpleasant Basement Odors in Toronto

Dry Water Trap

The most common cause of unpleasant basement odors is a water trap that has dried out due to lack of regular use. The trap may be located under a wash basin, floor drain or laundry tub. When a drain is not used regularly, the water in the trap eventually evaporates, allowing sewer gas to come up the drain into your basement. To fix this problem, simply dump water into the drain to restore the water level in the trap. To keep the water from evaporating so quickly, add a few tablespoons of cooking oil.

Though it’s less common, it’s also possible for the water in a toilet trap to evaporate if the toilet has not been used for an extended period of time. In this instance, simply flushing the toilet will replenish the water and solve the problem.

Missing Cleanout Plug

Check your floor drain to see if the cleanout plug is missing. If it is, sewer gases can bypass the water trap and enter your home. To check, remove the grate covering the opening of the drain, and look for a plug inside the drain bowl. If yours is missing, a replacement can be purchased at any hardware store.

Bad Wax Seal on Toilet

A bad seal between the base of the toilet and the toilet flange can also cause unpleasant odors. If the seal leaks, sewer gas can escape from under the toilet. Solving this problem requires removing the toilet and replacing the ring. If your toilet rocks, placing plastic shims between the toilet base and the floor and caulking the floor joint can help prevent rocking from damaging the replaced wax seal.

Major Plumbing Problems

Though rare, more serious plumbing problems like broken or cracked sewer lines can also cause sewer smells in the basement. There could also be a loose connection in the ceiling or behind a wall. If the most common problems aren’t causing your issue, more serious plumbing issues may be at hand. Check out all the visible joints in your plumbing, and look for leaks. If you can’t find the leak, or you are unsure how to perform the necessary repair, you may need the help of a professional.

Leak in Copper Water Pipe? Here Are the Possible Causes

By | Plumbing, Plumbing Tips | No Comments

Mississauga Plumber

Copper pipes are actually designed to last for as long as 25 years. But like all metal pipes, copper can also corrode over time and cause leaky pipes. Here are the likely causes of corrosion of your copper pipes.Copper still remains the most popular material for water pipes because it is easy to use, it resists corrosion and it cannot be permeated by gases and liquids. Here are the most common causes of leaks in copper water pipes.

Pitting due to hard water

Hard water will cause corrosion in copper pipes and this type of pitting is more often associated with cold hard water.

Water velocity

The copper pipe can get eroded at areas where turbulence develops, such as when water changes direction suddenly, as is the case at sharp elbows and turns. If the distribution lines are not large enough, the copper pipe may get eroded quickly when the circulation pumps are oversized and the system is improperly balanced.

pH value of the water

If the pH value of water is more than 8, copper oxide will begin to form on the walls of the pipe. This film will act as a barrier and resist corrosion. But if the pH falls below 8, this film will be dissolved, leaving the copper exposed to corrosive action. As the wall weakens, pin hole leaks will begin to form.

Oxygen is dissolved in water to the extent of nearly 30%. Oxygen will react with metals by an electro chemical process and convert the metal into an oxide. This weakens the pipe. The rust like substance deposits in the pipes and slows down the flow of water, requiring repair. This type of corrosion is more in the presence of hot water.

Different Types Of Plumbing Pipes

By | Plumbing | No Comments

When plumbers talk about pipes, there are two different types of plumbing pipes that can be used for all of your plumbing needs. Whether you are putting together sink, a water heater, a complete kitchen or bathroom or doing some remodeling yourself, it really comes down to what will be going through those pipes. Do we need a gas pipe, water pipe or waste (drainage) pipe? Answering those questions first help us determine the pipe’s material.

The materials can be broken down into two categories. Metal pipe and plastic pipe.

Metal Pipe

Why so many different types of pipe? Each pipe is suited for different applications and the trick is knowing what pipe will work best for each.

Copper Pipe

Copper pipe is a luxury pipe. It’s durable, corrosion-resistant and light-weight, which makes it one of the most expensive types of plumbing pipe on the market. But that doesn’t mean that it’s uncommon. In fact, it’s probably the most common type of water pipes used for hot and cold water lines!

One way people try to cut back on copper pipe costs is by using CPVC to carry their hot water. It would be very impractical to plumb an entire house with copper pipe since there are other types of pipe that can be used efficiently.

Stainless Steel Pipe

It is not very common to find stainless steel plumbing in homes as it runs more expensive and is generally harder to find than the others. Stainless material is used in areas that come in direct contact with salt water such as marine environments, because it is better able to resist the corrosive nature of salt.

Galvanized Pipe

This type of water pipe is used most commonly as a means of taking water away from the home. It’s thicker and heavier and often buried underground. It has a coating that makes it rust resistant.

In the end, metal pipes are the very best choice for certain applications (such as water pipes) and not so great a choice for others. Nowadays contractors and home owners are trying to move away from galvanized pipe by using plastic pipe simply because plastic pipe is easier to work with and it does not rust!

Types of Plumbing Pipes

Plastic Pipe

Plastic pipes include a good variety of pipes designed well for high pressure water (hot and cold). Let’s have a look at the different types.

Polyvinyl Chloride Pipe (PVC)

PVC is most often used for plumbing high-pressure water, usually cold. Sprinkler systems are constructed using this handy type of pipe. It’s inexpensive and capable of the most common plumbing needs such as cold water pipes and waste pipes.

Polyethylene Pipe (PEX)

PEX pipe is specially designed as a hot water pipe. It has a high resistance for heat which makes it suitable for showers, sinks and washing machines.  This plastic pipe is also very flexible, which makes it easy to work with!

Acrylonitrite Butadiene Styrene Pipe (ABS)

This rigid plastic pipe is designed well to serve as a waste pipe, drain pipe and ventilation pipe. You see ABS pipe most commonly in bathrooms.

Chlorine Polyvinyl Chloride Pipe (CPVC)

As the name denotes, CPVC pipe is simply PVC pipe that has been made more chlorinated. It’s one of the most common substitutes for copper pipe as it shares the same outer diameter as copper pipe.
